Possible definitions for yair

air
Mixture of gases constituting the earth's atmosphere. Some gases occur in steady concentrations. The most important are molecular nitrogen (N2), 78% by volume, and molecular oxygen (O2), 21%. Small amounts of argon (Ar; 1.9%), neon (Ne), helium (He), methane (CH4), krypton (Kr), hydrogen (H2), nitrous oxide (N2O), and xenon (Xe) are also present in almost constant proportions. Other gases occur in variable concentrations: water vapor (H2O), ozone (O3), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Air also contains trace amounts of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. The variable constituents are important for maintaining life. Water vapor is the source for all forms of precipitation and is an important absorber and emitter of infrared radiation. Carbon dioxide is necessary for photosynthesis and is also an important absorber and emitter of infrared radiation. Ozone in the stratosphere (see ozone layer) is an effective absorber of ultraviolet radiation from the sun, but at ground-level is a corrosive pollutant and a major constituent of smog.

Cairo
City (pop., 1991 est.: 6,663,000; metro. area pop., 1996 est.: 9,900,000), capital of Egypt. Located on the banks of the Nile near the site of a Roman city captured by the Arabs in 641, Old Cairo (Al-Fustat) was then built by the Arabs as a military camp. Cairo's newer section (Al-Qahirah) was built by the Fatimid dynasty c.968 and was made the capital in 973. From the 13th cent., as the capital of the Mamluk sultans, it reached its greatest prosperity as a trade and cultural center. Invaded by Napoleon in 1798, it was held by the French for three years. In World War II it was a British and U.S. base and was also the site of two Allied conferences (see Cairo conferences). The ancient metropolis is a blend of old and new, East and West. It is the largest city of the Middle East and of Africa, and the chief cultural center of the Arab world. The Pyramids of Giza are at the SW edge of the city. A manufacturing center, it is also the site of several universities and colleges.

fair
Temporary market where buyers and sellers gather to transact business. Fairs are held at regular intervals, generally at the same location and time of year. An important form of commerce before the Industrial Revolution, fairs solved the problem of distribution and made possible the demonstration of arts and crafts and the sale and barter of goods. They were a fixture of the Roman Empire and medieval Europe, where they were held at major caravan-route intersections and near religious festivals. The rules of the fair eventually became the basis of European business law. Fairs began to die out as cities grew larger and transportation networks became more extensive, though some continued to exist as religious festivals or recreational events. County, agricultural, and livestock fairs are still held in the U.S. and Europe. The trade fair, in which ...
