Morelos
State (pop., 1995 est.: 1,443,000), central Mexico. Located on the S slope of the central Mexican plateau, it occupies an area of 1,911 sq mi (4,950 sq km). Its capital is Cuernavaca. It is one of the country's most flourishing agricultural states, with valleys that produce a variety of agricultural products. It was named after José Marí a Morelos and was the birthplace of E. Zapata, both heroes of Mexico's war for independence.
