Poulenc
French composer. In his teens, he studied piano with Ricardo Viñ es (1875-1943) and met E. Satie and the composers of Les Six. He wrote much piano and orchestral music, incl. concertos for harpsichord, two pianos, and organ, and chamber music, but is best known for his vocal music, incl. the operas Les mamelles de Tiré sias (1944), Dialogues of the Carmelites (1956), and La voix humaine (1958), such sacred choral works as the Mass in G (1937), the Stabat mater (1950), and the Gloria (1959), reflecting his devout Catholicism, and many admired songs.
