Possible definitions for macarani
Acarnania
District, ancient Greece bounded by the Ionian Sea, the Ambracian Gulf, and the Achelous River. First settled in the 7th-6th cent. BC, it developed into a federal state by the late 5th cent.; its capital was Stratus. It later came under Athenian, Theban, and Macedonian rule. Part of Acarnania recovered its independence in 231 BC and began an alliance with Philip V of Macedon. Rome overthrew the Macedonian dynasty in 167 BC, and Acarnania survived until Augustus incorporated many Acarnanians into his new city Nicopolis Actia.
jacaranda
Any plant of the genus Jacaranda (family Bignoniaceae), especially the two ornamental trees J. mimosifolia and J. cuspidifolia. Jacarandas are grown widely in warm parts of the world and in greenhouses for their showy blue or violet flowers and attractive, oppositely paired, compound leaves. The genus includes about 50 species native to Central and S. America and the W. Indies. The name is also applied to several tree species of the genera Machaerium and Dalbergia in the pea family (see legume), the sources of commercial rosewood.
macadamia
Any of about 10 species of ornamental evergreen trees in the family Proteaceae, and their edible, richly flavored dessert nuts. Macadamias originated in the coastal rain forests and scrubs of NE Australia. Those grown commercially in Hawaii and Australia are principally of two species, the smooth-shelled Macadamia integrifolia and the rough-shelled M. tetraphylla. Macadamias are grown in quantity also in parts of Africa and S. and Central America. Hard to propagate and slow to bear, the trees grow only in rich, well-drained soil with 50 in. (130 cm) of rain annually. Fragrant pink or white flower clusters on trees with large, shiny, leathery leaves produce bunches of 1-20 fruits. The nuts contain much fat but are a good source of minerals and vitamin B.
