Possible definitions for koinon

Keino
Kenyan distance runner. He was originally a goatherd, who trained for distance running in the hill country. At the high-altitude 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, he won a silver medal in the 5,000-m race and, in one of running's greatest upsets, a gold medal in the 1,500-m race, beating Jim Ryun of the U.S. At the 1972 Olympics, Keino won a silver medal in the 1,500-m and a gold in the 3,000-m steeplechase.

koine
Newly formed compromise language that usually arises from a leveling of features distinguishing dialects of a common base language, or of features distinguishing several closely related languages. The new language is hence deregionalized and does not reflect social or political dominance of any one group of speakers. The classical example of a koine (as well as the source of the term) is Hellenistic Greek, which developed from Attic Greek through replacement of the most distinctively Attic features by features of Ionic or other dialects. A koine may serve as a lingua franca and often forms the basis of a new standard language.

Meinong
Austrian philosopher and psychologist. He is remembered for his contributions to axiology and the theory of objects. He taught at the Univ of Graz 1889-1920. Like his teacher F. Brentano, he considered intentionality to be the essence of mental states. In On Assumptions (1902), he maintained that objects remain objects and have definite properties (Sosein) even if they have no being (Sein), an aspect of his thought that influenced B. Russell. His major writings include On Possibility and Probability (1915) and On Emotional Presentation (1917).

onion
Herbaceous biennial plant (Allium cepa) of the lily family, probably native to SW Asia but now grown worldwide, and its edible bulb. Among the hardiest and oldest garden-vegetable plants, onions bear a cluster of small, greenish-white flowers on one or more leafless stalks. The leaf base swells to form the underground mature, edible onion. Onions are pungent and cause eye tearing when peeled or sliced because they contain a sulfur-rich volatile oil. They vary in size, shape, color, and pungency. Though low in standard nutrients, they are valued for their flavor. Onions have been claimed to cure colds, earaches, and laryngitis and have been used to treat animal bites, powder burns, and warts; like their close relative garlic, they are being studied for other suspected beneficial qualities. See also allium.

poison
Any substance (natural or synthetic) that damages living tissues and injures or kills. Poisons spontaneously produced by living organisms are often called toxins, or venoms if produced by animals. Poisons may be ingested, inhaled, injected, or absorbed through the skin. They do not always have an all-or-none effect; some are far more toxic than others (e.g., 0.25 g of potassium cyanide may kill, whereas a massive single dose of table salt can kill). ...
