In prosody, rhythmically significant stress on the syllables of a verse, usually at regular intervals. Though the term is often used interchangeably with "stress," some prosodists use accent to mean the emphasis determined by normal language usage and stress to mean emphasis determined by metrical pattern.


jadeite
Gem-quality silicate mineral in the pyroxene family that is one of the two forms of jade. Jadeite (imperial jade), sodium aluminum silicate (NaAlSi2O6), may contain impurities that give it a variety of colors: white, green, red, brown, and blue. The most highly prized variety is emerald green. Jadeite occurs only in metamorphic rocks, most often in those that have been subjected to the high pressures deep below the earth's surface. The area around the city of Mogaung in N Myanmar has long been the main source of gem-quality jadeite.

Government grant to an inventor of the exclusive right to make, use, or sell an invention, usually for a specified term. It may be granted for a process or method that is new, useful, and not obvious, or for a new use of a known process, machine, or composition of matter or material, incl. asexually reproduced plants and genetically engineered organisms. It may also be granted for any new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture. In the U.S., design patents are issued for 14 years, other patents for 20 years. Patents are considered personal property and may be sold, assigned, or otherwise transferred.


Vicente
Portuguese playwright. His first plays were produced in 1502, and for the next 34 years acted as court dramatist and poet laureate, staging his plays to celebrate great events and religious occasions. Regarded as the founder of Portuguese drama, he wrote in both Portuguese and Spanish. His 44 extant plays included tragicomedies, farces, and autos sacramentales (short biblical plays) that reflected the change and upheaval of his era. His works include Exhortation to War (1513), The Forge of Love (1524), and The Pilgrimage of the Aggrieved (1533).
