Possible definitions for facd

face
Front part of the head, extending from the forehead to the chin and housing the eyes, nose, mouth, and jaws. The receding of the jaw and the increasing size of the brain in human evolution has made the face essentially vertical, with two distinctively human features: a prominent, projecting nose and a clearly defined chin. The face and braincase follow different patterns of growth. While the face grows more slowly, it ends up much larger compared to the braincase in adults than at birth. The facial muscles move the features to express emotion.

fayd
In Islamic philosophy, the emanation of created things from God. The term is not used in the Quran, but Muslim philosophers such as al-Farabi and Avicenna borrowed the notion from Neoplatonism. They conceived of creation as a gradual process arising from God's superabundance. Creation begins at the most perfect level, God, and descends through the world of the spirit to the least perfect level, the world of matter. The fayd theory was refuted by al-Ghazali in the 11th cent.

acid
Any substance that in water solution tastes sour, changes the color of acid-base indicators (e.g., litmus), reacts with some metals (e.g., iron) to yield hydrogen gas, reacts with bases to form salts, and promotes certain chemical reactions (e.g., acid catalysis). Acids contain one or more hydrogen atoms that, in solution, dissociate as positively charged hydrogen ions. Inorganic, or mineral, acids include sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, and phosphoric acid. Organic acids include carboxylic acids, phenols, and sulfonic acids. Broader definitions of acids cover situations in which water is not present. See also acid-base theory.

Balder
In Norse mythology, the just and beautiful son of Odin and Frigga. He could be harmed by nothing except mistletoe. Knowing he was invulnerable, the gods amused themselves by throwing things at him. Deceived by Loki, the blind god Hö d hurled mistletoe at Balder and killed him. The giantess Thö kk, probably Loki in disguise, refused to weep the tears that would have released Balder from the underworld.

band
Type of human social organization consisting of a small number of nuclear families or related subgroups who are loosely organized for purposes of subsistence or security. Bands may be integrated into a larger community or tribe. They generally exist in sparsely populated areas and possess relatively simple technologies; their habitats range from the Australian desert (Aborigines) to the African rain forest (Mbuti, Aka) to the N tundra (Kaska Indians). Bands may occasionally coalesce for broader community ceremonies, hunting, or warfare. See also hunting and gathering societies, sociocultural evolution.
