explanation
In philosophy, the answer to a question of why something is, occurs, or acts as it is or does. The class of things that may be objects of explanation is highly diverse and includes facts, events, objects, properties, human actions, and assertions. Among the most common forms of explanation are causal explanation (see causation), which involves explaining an event by reference to its cause(s), and deductive-nomological explanation (see covering-law model), which involves subsuming a fact, statement, or event under a scientific law of which it is an instance.
